Number 19: Steamed Pork Buns

I had a semi-religious experience yesterday and I wasn’t even expecting it.   I headed back to Mitsuwa, my favorite Japanese marketplace (okay, my ONLY Japanese marketplace) to sample some pork buns yesterday.  Mitsuwa is the same place that I bought my PockyThe last time I went there, my boyfriend had some pork and ended up puking for 5 hours, so, needless to say, I was a little bit nervous about trying these out.  They arrived in a little dim sum thingy and were pretty bizarre looking. Number 49: Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Doughnut

I know it seems like I’m going for the easy stuff first, but I needed to do this one before all the Krispy Kremes in the U.S. disappear!  There are only 2 left in Illinois and, thankfully, one is about 15 minutes away from my apartment (or so I thought).  When I plugged the address in to my GPS yesterday after work, I had no idea that a quick drive to Krispy Kreme would turn into a grueling hour-long trek.

Number 83: Pocky

After eating umeboshi last week, I decided I needed to eat something that would remind me what I loved about Japanese cuisine- and quick!  I needed a treat.  A chocolatey, biscuity treat.  It was POCKY TIME!  (cue MC Hammer dancing across the computer screen holding boxes of Pocky)

Let me preface this post by saying that I am an adventurous eater.  I will pretty much taste anything, eat it, and enjoy it.  It takes a LOT for me to be grossed out, and even when I’m grossed out, I still tough it out and usually have a few more bites.  Yesterday, however, in the war of Kathryn vs. umeboshi, umeboshi won.
