5 Apr

If you missed out on part one of my dinner at Alinea,
click here to catch up.  Otherwise, let’s get back into this!  I left off with course #8, which had Amy and me drinking beet juice out of a giant block of ice.  Bizarre.  Tasty, but bizarre. Continue reading

Number 84: Tasting Menu at a Three-Star Michelin Restaurant

4 Apr

Alright, it’s finally time to tell you all about the grand finale of this challenge!  This past Friday, my friend Amy and I celebrated my birthday dinner at Alinea, Chicago’s only three-star Michelin restaurant.  We had to make reservations three months in advance, and I can see why.  The restaurant is world-renowned and was even named the World’s Top Restaurant by Elite Traveler Magazine.  Holy jeez. Number 43: Phaal

29 Mar

If you know anything about Indian food, you know that the vindaloo is the hottest curry in the world, right?  Wrong.  The vindaloo comes in close second to the phaal, which is the best way to burn your mouth off in five seconds or less.  “So, Kathryn,” you ask, “why on earth did you leave all the spicy stuff ’til the end of the challenge?  The Scotch bonnet, the rose harissa, the phaal?”  In short, because I’m a moron.  And apparently I enjoy torturing myself just hours before my birthday. Continue reading

Number 70: Chitterlings

8 Mar

My initial thought when I read number 70 on the list was, “what on earth are chitterlings?”  After about 6 seconds of research, I learned that chitterlings are what us un-fancy people call “chitlins!”  Which led me to think, “who on earth actually calls them chitterlings?”  Probably British people.  As they sip tea out of solid gold teacups.  Because that’s what all British people do. Continue reading

Number 89: Horse

5 Mar

I bet you thought I couldn’t do it.  I bet you thought I wouldn’t do it. I bet you thought I’d make it to this one and give up.  But I wasn’t gonna let this one slide, even if I had to leave the country to complete it.  And I didn’t just eat horse, either.  I ate it raw.  Ok, now you can start with the onslaught of negative comments. Continue reading
